The Trebbia Valley

Hospitality at the heart

Val Trebbia is a valley that begins in Piacenza (Emilia-Romagna) and, going up the Apennines, ends just before Genoa (capital of Liguria). The Trebbia river, which gives its name to the valley, originates on Monte Prelà (1406 meters above sea level) and, after a journey of approximately 118 km, flows into the Po, becoming one of its main tributaries.

The total absence of industrial areas makes the Trebbia one of the few rivers with a low pollution rate.
Val Trebbia boasts lush vegetation, pure air and enchanting woods. It is considered one of the most picturesque valleys of the Emilian Apennines, set between rugged and wooded ridges, sometimes opening onto breathtaking precipices, sometimes onto gentle slopes of intense green.

Bobbio

An enchanting village

Bobbio, a small town of 3500 inhabitants located in Emilia Romagna in the Apennine area of the province of Piacenza, is renowned for its medieval character and for the imposing Ponte Gobbo that crosses the Trebbia river. This enchanting place, thanks to its ancient charm, deserved the title of Borgo dei Borghi in 2019.

The Trebbia river

The Trebbia, a river that flows from the Ligurian mountains about thirty kilometers from Genoa, travels 110 kilometers before flowing into the Po, crossing the entire province of Piacenza.

Thanks to the clarity of its waters, especially in the upper reaches, it attracts numerous swimmers during the summer. It is also famous among canoeists from all over Europe as an excellent training location. The upper part of the valley, marked by the river, is characterized by high mountains with alpine sections, immersed in pastures and forests of chestnut, oak, pine and other trees. Furthermore, in the appropriate season, valuable mushrooms abound.

Things to do

Val Trebbia is one of the four valleys of the Colli Piacentini, renowned for some of the most enchanting villages in Italy.

Ernest Hemingway called it "the most beautiful valley in the world". The famous American writer, who remained here during the Second World War, fell deeply in love with these places.

From excursions to trekking, through canoeing, rafting, enduro and mountain biking, we get to the typical specialties of the Piacenza area without forgetting the little ones who have adventure parks, tennis and football courses at their disposal!

Food & Drink

Bobbio and Val Trebbia are famous for a cuisine that celebrates the authentic flavors of the region. Among the wines, Gutturnio, a robust red, and Malvasia, an aromatic white, stand out. The dishes stand out for their rustic simplicity, such as Maccheroni Bobbiesi, a handmade pasta dish, and Brachettone di Bobbio, a traditional cured meat. These examples represent only a part of the food and wine richness of this fascinating Italian area
